1:17 pm - She's Havin' a Baby

junkebunk
I just got back from Beth's favorite venue, The Fillmore, up in San Fran. Emmit, the guitarist, was telling me that this was their favorite place to play and that it showed that night. It's awesome to have been a part of it. It was here at this concert that we saw that Beth is pregnant. I can't remember when she was at the Filmore last time, but that's when "it" happened. That was a great concert as well. I think I'm going to make it a point to see her there every time she's in concert.

Anyway, so there you have it. Best place to see her: The Fillmore; Beth's pregnant; oh, and her performance with Ted Barns kicked serious ass (especially when they played "Paris Train")

11:16 am - Beth Orton at Higher Ground

x109
Beth Orton started her US tour right here in Burlington at Higher Ground on the seventh. It was an excellent show. She almost played the entire new album, with "Feral" being the exception.

The band retired briefly in the middle of the set and she played solo versions of "Stolen Car" and "Someone's Daughter." "Stolen Car" was much more somber, and if anyone happens to have an acoustic version on MP3, I'd very much like to hear it. Somewhere along the way she played a song I'd never heard before, and looking at unreleased lyrics on Always On the Run, I saw nothing that matched it.

She opened the encore with "Pieces of Sky" which, live, I found to be even heavier; I was very near the stage and being able to feel the sparse bass made it that much better. "A Place Aside" and "Absinthe" followed. She played the rest of the encore with the band, then excused herself with them to "reconvene" before returning alone for several more acoustic songs by request of the audience.

It was a great time.

Beth has rescheduled her cancelled show in Minneapolis. Looks like I'll be driving the five hours once again from Iowa to Minnesota to try to see her! Keep your fingers crossed. I bought my ticket yesterday. On a different note, does anyone have an mp3 of her song, "Bullet"? I don't seem to have that one.

Just got back from Beth's show tonight in Chicago...I'll post more later, but I'm finally getting around to asking something I've been meaning to ask for awhile now.  What ever happened to the Precious Maybe forum? (http://bethorton.be/index.php)  I haven't been able to access it for weeks.  Anyone?

Last night I drove 5 hours from Iowa City to Minneapolis to see Beth Orton play at First Avenue. I get there and there is a sign on the door: DUE TO ILLNESS TONIGHT'S BETH ORTON CONCERT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. I've wanted to see her in concert for years. Now, I may never get a chance to. There's no way I can make it to another date on this tour. I'm from New Orleans and she never came there. Now that I'm in Iowa and closer to major cities, I thought this would be my chance.

Not that it matters now, but does anyone know if she was able to make the concert in Madison, WI tonight? I almost went to that one instead.

2:05 pm - Concert

junkebunk
Last weekend I went to Beth Orton's three California concerts. It was my first time ever seeing her perform. It was amazing. The first concert was in San Diego. I met her right before she left and gave her a huge hug. She's such a nice down to earth woman. The next concert was in LA. This concert wasn't the best, but still, it was good. She was feeling pretty sick, so for her to not stay on stage as long as the other shows makes sense. The third concert was up in San Francisco. That was the best out of the three. She said it was her favorite venue to play at. The crowd there was very receptive to her and more in tune with her music. Again, I met her after that show and she signed my poster and remembered me from the two concerts before (it pays to be front and center at each concert:)

Anyway, I was looking online for Beth Orton's music video of "Stolen Car" and actually found it. Not only did I find "Stolen Car", I also found "Concrete Sky", "Central Reservation", and "Best Bit". I had never seen any of her videos except for "Conceived" and "Anywhere" (oh, plus the video of "Concrete Sky" from The Other Side of Daybreak.) Here's a link to those videos I just found if anyone has never seen them before. If there are other videos I'm missing, let me know. I want to see them all!

Have a good one.

12:40 pm - Comfort of Strangers

junkebunk
I recently bought Beth Orton's new CD "Comfort of Strangers" with the bonus CD. Love the album. The other day I watched the video for "Conceived" for the first time. Puppets? Reminded me of Kermit the Frog singing in the swamp. Still, I liked it. Found a b-track from the "Conceived" single called "Endless Day". Need to get that track.

Anyway, just updating to say I'm pleased with her new release. What does everyone else think of it?

Hey, has anyone here checked out the tour dates on Beth's website, the closest she comes to me is Portland, I might see if I can convince my man to go there with me.

I am so excited. I have never seen her live yet, so I think I might have to go.

junkebunk
I downloaded Beth's new single, "Conceived" and I'm pleased with it. I think that I'll like any song she puts out (even if it's not the greatest in reality.) I love her that much. I'm pleased to say (not that anyone else has been anxious to know) that I have successfully found almost EVERY song Beth has recorded or has been featured in. If I'm not mistaken, I'm only lacking one song: "Is This I Am I Find"

How the heck do I find it? And is there a song she made called "River"? I know she's got "Blood Red River", but for some reason I thought I saw somewhere that she made a song called "River".

So my bigger question is when is she coming to the US to tour?

I'm really excited about the new Beth Orton CD but I'm a little worried at the same time. The thing is that, other than the Beatles, I can't think of any band that has ever made more than 3 truly great albums. I mean can you thing of anyone who has made more that 3 truly great ones? I just hope Beth still has it!

Finally! Beth's coming out with a new album titled "Comfort Of Strangers" which will be released Feb. 2006. Not sure if I'm preaching to the choir, but I figured I'd post and let people know.

5:45 pm - Superpinkymandy

junkebunk
So I've finally collected all the songs from Superpinkymandy. I'm completely in love with this album. It's so different from her music now (for obvious reasons: William Orbit.) But it got me thinking. Why won't she release the album again? Is it because something bad happened between the two? I was listening to pieces of William Orbit's CD, Hinterland, and heard clips from songs in Superpinkymandy. Wonder if Beth was upset that William used their songs to his benefit? Who knows?

And that's my update:)

Hello everyone! I've been a fan of Beth's for a while now, but it's only really been until this instant that I felt the need to join a LJ community for her and write about it. Anyways, my name's Tim, and I'm in second year at university. I've been listening to her for about 6 months now I guess, but it definitely feels a lot longer than that. The first CD that I bought of hers was Central Reservation, and I got that used in Boston when I went on a little vacation there. Bought Trailer Park shortly afterwards. I still need to get Daybreak and the Other Side of that, but I've been lazy and cheap. But anyways, I was just wondering what Beth was up to these days. Is she busy recording an album? Joining a circus? Doing nothing?

As well, does anyone have a live version of "Feel To Believe"? I keep envisioning her singing that song while sitting on a stool at an outdoors festival on a hot summer's night in front of 60,000 people with just her and her guitar, the audience with lit-up lighters in the air, all kind of singing along. It's a beautiful image I think. Does anyone else feel that way? And does anyone have a live copy of that song? Thanks!
